Welcome to The Effectiveness Institute’s Business Training Site.


I’m Ed Murphy, the Founder of The Effectiveness Institute, and I’ll be your guide. 


This site is about your effectiveness, your effectiveness at work and in life.


For my career, I was lucky! I got to serve 24 years worldwide as a US Army Officer and spend the next 20 years as an Executive Coach in Corporate America in Seattle, San Diego, Kansas City, and Phoenix. 


As an Executive Coach, I was blessed to work with some of America's most successful men and women, including hundreds of business executives, teams, and small business owners.


I documented what they said, did, and how they did it. But, most importantly, I documented what worked, what didn’t work, and how people responded. 


It was here that I learned the true meaning of effectiveness in business.

  Effectiveness is your ability to do two things better than anyone else:


• First, to consistently produce excellent results.


• Second, to add greater value to all those who helped you produce your results, especially your boss.


The fact remains that you may be the top producer, but if you haven’t added value to all those who’ve helped you, especially your boss, you’ll never become effective or successful, period. 


As their Business Coach, I also noticed that the most effective people all had one thing in common. They were able to influence the actions of others by how well they demonstrated these eleven core competencies of effectiveness:


Followership, Delegating, Planning, Organizing, Communication, Problem-Solving, Decision-Making, Awareness, Training, Motivating, and Character.


This led me to document all that I learned into eleven Playbooks, one for each competency.
